Javelin & Shot Put
Javelin Javelin is a metal tipped spear used in an
athletic event called the "javelin throw". In javelin throw, the thrower has to
cover a long run-up area before throwing the javelin, in order to gain certain
forward velocity for throwing the javelin to the maximum distance. Javelin can
attain a speed of 113 Km/h after throwing, and only those throws are valid in
which the tip of the javelin touches the ground first. The lengths of javelin
for men and women are 260 cm and 220 cm respectively. The main portion of the
javelin is made up of wooden shaft to which a sharp pointed metal tip is attached.
Fiberglass or Carbon fiber is also used instead of wood. In the middle of javelin,
a strip of threads or leather covers are winded tightly to offer a solid grip.
Shot Put Shot Put is a spherical metal ball used in the athletic throwing event,
indoors or outdoors. The thrower who throws the ball the farthest distance, wins
the event. The weight of shot put differs for men and women, and is 16 lb and
8.8 lb respectively. Shot Put ball can be made out of iron, steel, brass, and
synthetic materials like polyvinyl.
